Play Script “SANGKURIANG”

The Legend of Tangkuban

Character= 1) Dayang Sumbi

                     2) Sangkuriang

                     3) Tumang/anjing sakti

                     4) Tokoh pembantu/ibu-ibu

Narator: One upon a time the land of parahyangan was ruled by the king and queen who only has a princess name Dayang Sumbi. She was very beautiful and smart. Unfortuna tely she was a spoiled. Child one day when Dayang Sumbi was weaving in the castle, she felt exhausted. And she many times dropped her yarn.

Dayang Sumbi: (Angry) aahh I dropped it again. And again. Im too lazy to take it. I swear if there is a man taking my yarn. I will make him my husband. And if it is a women. I will make her my sister.

Narator: Just then, came a dog, named tumang.

Tumang: This is the yarn you dropped, dayang sumbi!!(giving the yarn to the princess).

Dayang Sumbi: (Startled) HAHH??why is the dong bringing my yarn?it means like it or not…. I must married with this dog!!

Narator: And then they god married and lived happily and has one child, a boy named Sangkuriang. Everyday Sangkuriang played with tumang. He didn’t know that tumang is his father. Sangkuriang grew up as a handsome man. One day, Dayang Sumbi called Sangkuriang.

Dayang Sumbi: Son….I want to hold a party. Go to the forest and hunt deer with tumang.

Sangkuriang: Alright mom…

Narator: Ariued Sangkuriang in the forest.

Sangkuriang: Hmm where should I go to find a deer?? I am tierd. I don’t want to go home without bringing anything.

 Narator: Suddenly Sangkuriang killed Tumang with his arrow , and then he went back home.

Narator: Sangkuriang gave the meat to the mother.

Sangkuriang: I got the deer mom!!

Dayang Sumbi: (spicious) is this a real deer meat?

Sangkuriang: Yes it is.

Narator: Dayang Sumbi shocked after see looked at to the meet. Carefully. She realized that this meat was not deer meat but Tumang.

Dayang Sumbi: (angry) You are a murder!! Go away… and don’t ever come back!!

Narator: Sangkuriang left her mother alone. Dayang Sumbi prayed to god to be given an eternal beauty. One day she wanted to meet her son. Twenty years later Sangkuriang came back to the village. He saw a beautiful girl. It was Dayang Sumbi  but they didn’t know each other.

Sangkuriang: Hmm…. Who is this beautiful girl?? I want her to be my wife.

Dayang Sumbi: Who is he? He has been watching me. He is very handsome. I want to be his wife.

Sangkuriang: Hi i like you, you are beautiful. Do you want to be my wife??

Dayang Sumbi: Sure. I want…. You are very handsome.

Narator: One day when Sangkuriang was about going to the forest, Sangkuriang needed Dayang Sumbi to help him to tie his head band. Dayang Sumbi shocked about what she saw.

Sangkuriang: Babe, I want to hunt to the forest, can you help me to tie my headband?

Dayang Sumbi: Ok babe ( Hahh?? On the a head of my husband there is wound and this wound is same with the wound of my son)*talked to herself.

Sangkuriang: This wound was because my  mother, twenty years ago, she was angry and she hit my head

Dayang Sumbi: Oohh… So, this is my son… He came back to  me. Hhh… How is this…?? I almost marry my onw son…. I have to do something.

Sangkuriang: …. Ok finish. I am off.

Dayang Sumbi: OK!!

Narator: Dayang Sumbi realized that sha almost married her son. She made plan to cancel the marriage. After Sangkuriang come back from the forest, she talk to Sangkuriang.

Dayang Sumbi: I want married with you, but I have one condition.

Sangkuriang: What is that??

Dayang Sumbi: You must make me a lake and boat… in one night.

Sangkuriang: Ok… I agree.

Narator: With the help of genie and spirits, Sangkuriang tried to build them. By midnight.

Narator: he had completed the lake by building a dam in citarum river. Then he started making the boat, it was almost finished it. Meanwhile Dayang Sumbi kept watching on him. She was very worried when she knew this.

Dayang Sumbi: I will make lights in the east. So that it is already dawn.

Sangkuriang: Hahh?? It’s almost the time for the sun to rise . it must be Dayang Sumbi trick!

Dayang Sumbi: Wake up… Everyone… Wake up…

Narator: Dayang Sumbi tried to wake everyone up. Sangkuriang was angry, he kicked the boat then boat then the boat turned upside down. It, later became mount tangkuban boat, this means an upside down boat.  From distant the mount really looks like an upside down boat.
